Since 1965 the Department of Theater at Indiana State University has produced a summer professional company, now called Crossroads Repertory Theatre. All actors, designers, directors, technicians, and other workers are paid.

While I had worked as a lighting designer for CRT since 2008, I didn't take on production manager responsibilities until the 50th Anniversary season in 2015, assuming the title of Director of Production in 2019. In the years since taking on this leadership role, I have led the production teams for over 25 fully produced plays, musicals and cabarets. Highlights include the Terre Haute premiere productions of RENT, Avenue Q, Young Frankenstein,

Ring of Fire and The SpongeBob Musical. â€‹

As Director of Production, I ensure that all technical and logistical aspects come together smoothly. I bring together the creative and technical aspects of the individual theatrical productions, ensuring that they run efficiently and successfully. I do that through the following ways:

Coordination and Scheduling: Oversee the entire production schedule, coordinating between various departments such as scenery lighting, sound, costumes, and props. Ensure that everything stays on track, from rehearsals to the final performance.

Budget Management: Responsible for managing the production budget, making sure that all departments adhere to their financial constraints. Allocate resources and track expenses to avoid overspending.

Communication Hub: Act as the central point of communication among the director, designers, technical crew, and other stakeholders. Ensure that everyone is informed and that any issues are addressed promptly.

Logistics and Problem-Solving: Handle the logistics of the production, such as securing materials, renting equipment, and scheduling load-ins and load-outs. Function as the primary problem-solver for any issues that arise during the production process.

Safety and Compliance: Ensure that all safety protocols are followed and that the production complies with relevant regulations.

Final Oversight: Supervises the technical rehearsals, ensuring that all elements of the production are functioning as intended.
